Attendance and absences
Attendance at school is compulsory between 8.55am and 3.00pm each day the school is open. Parents should inform the school before 8.55am of a child’s absence or intended lateness. Please phone the school office and leave a message on the absence line or send an email to office@tearo.school.nz and provide a reason for your child’s absence. All absences are checked and your message saves a lot of time. If we do not hear from you we will contact you to ensure that your child is safe.
If a child is to be absent for non-medical reasons, the school must be notified beforehand. For absences of one week or longer, notification must be in writing. You can do this by sending an email to office@tearo.school.nz Please include the date your child will be returning to school.
Please do not send your child to school if they are unwell. If you are worried about your child’s health please seek the advice of a GP before bringing your child to school. Please allow your child time to recover from illness before returning to school.
No child with diarrhoea or vomiting should attend school. Children must be symptom free for 24 hours and in the case of diarrhoea have had at least one normal bowel motion before returning to school.
Lateness
Parents should inform the school before 8.55am if their child is going to arrive late at school. Please phone the school office and leave a message on the absence line or send an email to office@tearo.school.nz and provide a reason.
The school day starts at 8.55am but we encourage students to be at school by 8.40am so that they have an opportunity to catch up with their friends before the school day begins; unpack their school bag; and prepare themselves for the day ahead. Teachers in most classes share the day’s programme with their students on their whiteboards.
